The Dubuque Community School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Ron Armbruster as the district’s new director of technology. Armbruster will begin the position in mid-July.

Currently, Armbruster serves as network services manager for the Kansas City Public Schools, where he oversees data center, network infrastructure and enterprise support services operations. In this role, he has worked to reduce IT operating expenses and requirements by $3.1 million over five years through the adoption of more current technologies. He has provided either oversight or mentoring duties for more than 20 employees including data center administrators, desktop technicians, instructional coaches and help desk personnel.

With a focus on streamlining and maximizing resources, Armbruster implemented professional development strategies in Kansas City to improve in-house skills and remove the dependency on many outside vendors. He was also heavily involved in both strategic technology planning and operational IT policy development, with the district’s 2009-2012 technology plan receiving the highest award of excellence by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

“We are confident that Ron possesses the technical skills and managerial experience to proactively address the information technology needs of the Dubuque Community Schools into the future,” said Acting Superintendent Stan Rheingans. “His knowledge of best practices, combined with his dedication to K-12 education, makes him a wonderful addition to our management team.”

Prior to joining the Kansas City district, Armbruster was a senior technical instructor of New Horizons Computer Learning Center which provided advanced information technology training. He has also been an entrepreneur who founded and later sold two companies in digital sign technology and automotive after-market work.

Armbruster holds a MCITP Enterprise Engineering certification as well as 18 other national, industry-leading certifications from Cisco, Microsoft and Novell.
