The Hempstead High School Choir will turn in snow boots for sunshine when the ensemble performs at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., over winter break.

The choir was selected to perform in the 2013 Candlelight Processional and Massed Choir Program, which presents the story of Christmas as told by a celebrity narrator accompanied by a 50-piece orchestra and mass choir. The two one-hour performances will be held the evening of December 28.

The guest narrator for the Hempstead performances will be actor Blair Underwood.

To be considered, the choir prepared and performed a selection sent by Disney and another chosen by the choir. Selection was made based on an application and three video auditions. Since being selected, students have been rehearsing after school and on weekends to learn the material and memorize the 15 songs in the concerts.

‘The ensemble, consisting of 28 singers and accompanied by seven chaperones, will leave Dubuque the morning of December 26 and will return on December 31.

The Candlelight Processional event is held nightly at the American Gardens Theatre in Epcot from November 28-December 30. The performance is part of the Holidays Around The World series that transforms Epcot into an international celebration of Yuletide traditions filled with festive decorations and live entertainment.
