The 2014 FIRST LEGOLeague (FLL) regional event was held Saturday, December 6, at Roosevelt Middle School in Dubuque. The event is part of a global robotics competition that seeks to introduce students to problem-solving and research skills through robotics competitions on the state, regional and global levels.

In addition to hosting by the Dubuque Community School District, the program was supported by many Dubuque-area businesses who provided mentors and support throughout the season.

The 2014 winners are as follows:

Team Spirit Award: Lincoln Fitness Leaders
Celebrates a team that is empowered by their FLL experience and displays extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit.

Rising Star Award: Audubon Hawks
Recognizes a team that the judges notice and expect great things from in the future.

Core Values: Hillhawk Heroes (Jefferson) and Bryant Bulldogs
Recognizes a team whose members show each other and other teams respect at all times. They recognize that both friendly competition and mutual gain are possible, on and off the playing field.

Project Award: Puzzle Pieces (Hoover)
Recognizes a team that effectively communicates the problem they have identified and their proposed solution to both the judges and other potential supporters.

Robot Design: Table Mound Knights, Electrobots (Washington) and the Nerd Herd (Roosevelt)
Recognizing a team or teams that designs and develops a mechanically sound robot that is durable, efficient and highly capable of performing challenge missions.

Robot Performance: Kennedy Mustangs
Recognizing a team that scores the most points during the Robot Game. Teams have a chance to compete in at least three 2.5 minute matches and their highest score counts.
