Up Close: Jim Metcalf

Up Close introduces us to the amazing individuals that make up the Dubuque Community School District. In this edition, meet bus driver Jim Metcalf, who retired on November 14 at 55 years of service to the district.

IN THIS EPISODE:  Washington student authors take a trip to share literacy with younger students; Senior and Hempstead women tour John Deere for Introduce a Woman to Industry Day; Irving students are musically guided through historic Dubuque; Table Mound students and volunteers lift the recycled walls to their plastic greenhouse; and LEAP participants at Jefferson put on a performance to thank our community supporters.

IN THIS EPISODE: Senior and Hempstead artists install a gallery of inspiring artwork, Jefferson and Roosevelt students pick their own lesson plans and share them at a Genius Hour celebration event, nearly 500 elementary track stars enter Dalzell Field for a district-wide track meet, and Senior biology students regenerate the lives of flatworms.

IN THIS EPISODE: Hempstead High School hosts its first Women’s Empowerment Conference, Sageville students are on the march, Roosevelt Middle School students connect art and the environment, and Alternative Learning Center students produce a documentary about the Veterans Freedom Center in Dubuque.

IN THIS EPISODE: Dubuque Senior High School’s speech and coding clubs unite for an All-State performance; elementary students participate in Two-by-Two Character Development; professional musicians mentor Hempstead High School student musicians for “Spamalot”; and Prescott and Kennedy Elementary students bring lessons to life with living museums.

IN THIS EPISODE: Dubuque Senior High School students learn economics through dodgeball, the Star Lab mobile planetarium visits Table Mound Elementary School, Fulton Elementary Schools students develop character through roller derby, and Washington Middle School dedicates Roling Auditorium.
