Summer Academy

summer-academy-logoThis year, the Dubuque Community School District will offer a Summer Academy for students enrolled in the district in Grades 1 and 2. Enrollment is by invitation only and is offered to students who are in danger of being retained after Grade 3.

The Summer Academy is a FREE six-week learning experience designed to give students a reading-focused morning combined with amazing afternoon enrichment.

THE SCHEDULE

Reading instruction is delivered Monday through Thursday morning, with enrichment activities in the afternoons and all-day on Friday. Remember: Summer Academy will not be held the week of July 4.

8:15 a.m. Breakfast (FREE for all students)
8:30 a.m. Literacy instruction (M-TH) / Enrichment (F)
11:45 a.m. Recess / Pick-up for morning-only students
(Students electing to stay for lunch should be picked up at 12:20 p.m.)
Noon Lunch (FREE for all students)
12:30 p.m. Recess
12:45 p.m. Afternoon enrichment
3 p.m. Summer Academy concludes

Participation is key to your student’s success in the Summer Academy. Please do your best to ensure attendance. If for some reason your student must miss class, please contact the office. If your child has not arrived by 9 a.m., we will call to check on the reason for the absence.

THE ROUTES

FREE transportation on the district’s yellow school buses will be available at express stops throughout the community.
