Bond Referendum Information Sessions, October 2 and 21

The Dubuque Community School District will host two community information meetings on the $70 million school bond referendum that will be on the November 4 election ballot.

The first session will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Jefferson Middle School, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tours of Jefferson will be available for those interested from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. before the presentation.

The second session will be held on Tuesday, October 21, at Washington Middle School from 6-7 p.m. Tours of Washington will be available for those interested from 5 to 6 p.m. before the presentation.

At each meeting, Superintendent Amy Hawkins and the team from INVISION Architecture leading the bond facility project planning will provide an overview of the proposal to build a new, modern 1,000+ student middle school on the current Washington Middle School site, including the data and feedback that informed the planning process, an overview of the project, and the financial/tax levy impact of the bond.

If approved, the new middle school would ensure all Dubuque middle school students learn in a setting made for today’s learners; create a feeder system so students move seamlessly as a cohort from middle school to high school; and save an estimated $1.9 to $2.5 million in annual operating expenses by moving from three to two district middle schools.

Additional information about the bond referendum can be found at www.dbqschools.org/bond.
