January is International Creativity Month, so come show your creativity at the library! In this program, your creativity and imagination will be brought to life through writing and drawing while creating your own book/story! Registration is required.

The University of Iowa is hosting its annual Alumni and Friends Flash Writing Contest—a timed, online short story competition. We’ll provide you with a writing prompt that includes a genre, character, and a specific object to incorporate into your story. You’ll have 48 hours and up to 1,000 words.

Gather at Jackson Park at 12:30 p.m. for a march beginning at 12:45 p.m. The Tribute ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at the Multicultural Family Center. Immediately after, there will be a reception. The work of student honorees and honorable mentions will be displayed at Carnegie Stout Public library.

This clinic is open to boys and girls in Pre-K–8th grade and is all about learning skills, having fun, and loving the game. The clinic will be led by our college coaches and players.

Kids Take the Stage offers creative dramatics and theater classes for kids of all skills levels. A variety of classes are offered with one or more classes available to each grade level from Kindergarten thru 8th. Classes meet once a week for six weeks. Financial assistance is available.

Get ready to get foiled, on purpose! We will crinkle, color, outline, and turn plain aluminum into a bold, shiny design that pops. Registration is required.

Visit the James Kennedy Public Library's Antique Children's Book Sale in Dyersville to buy children's picture books from the 1960s through the late 1990s. Funds raised benefit the children's play area.

The Clarke University Softball Team is hosting 2 Winter Camps! Prospect Camp: January 31st, 2026 Youth Camp: February 1st, 2026

A funny, sweet, rollicking good time that celebrates art, friendship, creative thinking, and of course, pancakes! This stage adaptation of the classic children's book series is perfect your young audiences and the young at heart. Running Time: approximately 1 hour with no intermission.

What’s slimy, warty and jumpy? Frogs of course! Hop on down to the River Museum to become a frog expert. We’ll explore the stages of metamorphosis, conduct our own “frog chorus,” meet some live toads and learn all about the Wyoming Toads. You’ll toad-ally be in love with frogs after this camp!

Join faces&voices for this annual celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast served at 7 a.m.; program begins at 7:30 a.m. Children are encouraged to attend! Activities related to the day's topics will be available for youth attendees age 10 and younger.

Mindful Musicians drop-in classes are being offered this winter. Classes are for 0-6 year-olds with a caregiver. Mindful Musicians programming is confidence-building through creativity. Families will explore instruments, sing original songs designed to boost positive self-talk and have fun together!

From crafting wooden boats to building picture frames, campers will use real tools and materials to bring their own creations to life. We’ll also go behind the scenes with the our exhibit team for an exclusive tour of their workshop and we'll learn how they bring exhibits from blueprint to reality.

What’s for lunch in the animal kingdom? At this camp, we’ll sink our teeth into the world of herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores! Campers will explore how different animals eat, hunt, graze, and survive—whether they’re munching on plants, chasing prey, or enjoying a little of both.

Join us as we flap into the world of our feathered friends! We’ll discover what birds eat by taking a close look at their beaks and feet, then lend them a helping wing by making bird feeders and building cozy birdhouses. It’s a hands-on adventure that’s sure to make your spirits soar!

Join us as we explore the mysterious world beneath the waves—one of the least explored places on Earth. We’ll search for strange and fascinating creatures like cuttlefish, frilled sharks, anglerfish, and even the elusive giant squid. The deep sea is calling—are you ready to dive in?

Meet other Pokémon trainers at Pokémon Club! Trading Card Game, Nintendo Switch, and Pokémon Go gamers are all welcome. Registration is required.

The L.&M.O.P. concert series is for preschool children and their families. Children will leave each concert with a greater appreciation of music and a lollipop to enjoy! The Northeast Iowa School of Music sponsors this series. An adult must accompany children. No registration required.

Dogs love stories but can’t read to themselves! Children in grades K through 3 are welcome to read a short book to a dog. A volunteer will also be available to read aloud to younger children and/or children who want to listen to stories while reading to the pets. Registration is not required.

Calling all LEGO® fans! Come to the library to build, create, and have fun. The library provides the LEGO®, and you provide the know-how! Donations of LEGO® are appreciated. LEGO® creations will be exhibited in the library. The program will be held in the Aigler Auditorium on the 3rd floor.

A StoryWalk is a fun, educational, activity that places the pages of a book along a popular walking route. StoryWalk combines the joy of reading with all the benefits of being active outside. Located at the 22nd Street Bee Branch Greenway and at the Dubuque Arboretum.
