Reading instruction is delivered Monday through Friday mornings by certified district teachers. In addition to fun and engaging reading instruction, optional enrichment activities will be offered in the afternoons keeping kids involved in learning. Activities are provided by community partners.

Come learn how to play chess with the Dubuque Chess Club. Our club was started in the 1850s (!) and we still get together to play chess every Monday night from 6:00-9pm. We'll have a group lesson and individual lessons available too. For beginner level and up!

Girls will get to meet the City of Dubuque's horticulturist, Kelly Goossen, and take a tour of the city's greenhouse! Check out their banana tree, learn about Mason Bees, make a Mason Bee house, & plant a pollinator plant to take home!

Dubuque County ISU Extension is excited to host the 2nd annual Bacon Buddies show at the 2025 Dubuque County Fair. This event gives 4th-12th grade individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities the chance to show a pig alongside youth mentors.

If you are looking for a camp in June to have fun, compete, and get better at basketball skills, then sign up for Hempstead Girls Basketball Youth Summer Skills Camp This will be run by the coaching staff for girls basketball for Hempstead.

Join us in the Spring of '25 on Thursdays! Come as many days as you can (listed below) between 6:00-6:45 p.m. at the Crescent Community Health Center Training Center and Kitchen! This free adventure based activity is for Elementary Aged Youth. Free snacks are provided at each session. Dates: April 3, April17, May 1, May 15 and May 29

The program runs four weeks, and includes a weekly sectional rehearsal(10:25 - 11 AM) and three weekly concert band rehearsals (11AM - 12:15 PM. The season culminates on June 27 with a 7 PM concert at Alliant Energy Amphitheater in Dubuque.

Summer Day Camps to provide kids the opportunity to continue learning over summer break.

FASST Flag Football league is open to all boys and girls, grades 1-6 (grade levels for 2025-2026 school year). Camp, practices and games span over 8 weeks from August 17 to October 11. Registration opens April 1 and will close when levels are full, or June 1.

These camps will focus on strength, power, mobility, flexibility, agility, and speed. From a beginner to an advanced athlete and can give them the competitive edge and readiness they need for the upcoming season.

Join the UD Cheerleaders to learn the foundations of cheer over the 3 week camp on Mondays and Thursdays. Expect to learn a cheer, dance, and stunts that will be showcased to friends/family on the last day of camp. Includes bow/t-shirt.

Athletes ages grade 4 through grade 12 can come and try diving. We will be going through front and back approaches, new dives, and proper water entry. Please bring a swim suit, towel and water bottle.

The goal of the league is to introduce future bowlers to the Mustang bowling program. Students will bowl 2-3 games and take part in drills aimed at improving their scores. Coaches Cheever and Muilenburg will run the league with assistance from current Hempstead bowlers.
