Preparing for kindergarten is an exciting time for children and parents alike. The help ease the transition, schools in the Dubuque Community School District are holding a series of Kindergarten Welcome Events to help students and families get acquainted with their school and its staff in preparation for the 2014-15 school year.

At the welcome event, attendees will meet the school’s kindergarten teacher, the school principal and other school staff. Tickets for the football games between Hempstead High School and Senior High School tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 11, will go on sale at 11 a.m. tomorrow and continue through game time at the main ticket booth at Dalzell Field. The Dubuque Community School District will host an inaugural music event for Dubuque-area men when it presents “River City HarMENy,” a daylong music festival on Saturday, Oct. 12. Read More about “Male Voices to Create ‘River City HarMENy,’ Oct. 12”

In honor of the 75th anniversary of its opening, Bryant Elementary School will host the “Bryant Bulldog Walk-A-Round” on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at the school. The event will feature games, activities, door prizes, an open house, snacks and more. Attendees are also invited to tour the school building. Admission, activities and food are all free. The Dubuque Community School District will host its annual Family Fun Run for students in grades pre-K through 5 on Saturday, September 21, at Dalzell Field. Due to inclement weather, the following athletic events in the Dubuque Community School District are canceled for today, Friday, May 3:

• The Women’s Varsity City Golf Meeting has been rescheduled to Monday, May 13, at the Dubuque Golf and Country Club.
• The Dubuque Senior men’s varsity and sophomore soccer games vs. Cedar Falls have been rescheduled for Monday, May 6, at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.
• The Dubuque Senior women’s varsity and junior varsity soccer games vs. Cedar Falls have been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 22, at Dalzell Field.
• The Hempstead men’s varsity soccer game vs. Cedar Falls has been canceled. A make-up date, if any, has not been determined.
• The Hempstead women’s varsity soccer vs. Cedar Falls (previously moved to the Hempstead turf field) has been canceled. A make-up date, if any, has not been determined.

• The Mississippi Valley Conference Divisional Track Meet has been postponed to its scheduled time on Monday, May 6, at Dalzell Field.
• The Senior High School Women’s Soccer Game has been moved to Dalzell Field at 5 p.m. today.
• The Middle School Track Meeting scheduled at Hempstead High School has been canceled and will not be rescheduled.
• The Senior High School Women’s Golf Meet is canceled and will not be rescheduled.
• Senior High School Men’s and Women’s Tennis have both been canceled.
• Hempstead High School Women’s Tennis has been canceled.
• The fourth grade Go the Distance Day (GTDD) event scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, May 3, will now be held on Monday, May 6, its scheduled same time.
