Student Use of Digital Resources

Technology plays an essential role in helping students learn, collaborate, and succeed. In the Dubuque Community School District, students use digital resources, such as websites and educational apps, as part of their daily learning experience. These tools help students stay organized, share ideas, and engage meaningfully with academic content.

Most digital resources are essential for instruction, assessments, and student progress monitoring, and they play a critical role in supporting each student’s academic growth and success. However, we understand that some families may wish to limit the use of non-essential digital resources that require the sharing of personally identifiable information.

What does “non-essential” digital resources mean in this context?

  • Essential digital resources are those required to meet academic or curriculum expectations. These include platforms used for instruction, assessments, progress monitoring, and daily learning activities.
  • Non-essential digital resources may support or enrich learning but are not required for your child to meet academic standards. Examples include optional classroom tools or supplemental apps that require account creation using student information but are not part of the required curriculum or instructional delivery or to meet academic standards.

Additional Details

Parents/guardians who do not wish for their student to use non-essential digital resources that require the use of personally identifiable information may opt-out by completing the Student Use of Non-Essential Digital Resources Opt-Out Form at www.dbqschools.org/district/curriculum/student-use-of-digital-resources/opt-out/.

Note that your student will still be required to use essential digital resources necessary for academic growth, assessments, curriculum, instruction, and progress monitoring as part of their ongoing learning and development.
